Specialisation Area 5
Comparative Criminal Law: Economic Criminal Law, Criminology, Europeanisation and Practice
The course "Comparative Criminal Law" provides an in-depth insight into the techniques of comparative law in the field of criminal law. The basics of comparative law and criminal law are discussed. A historical-vertical comparison enables a deeper understanding of the development of criminal law and its cultural roots, also with reference to the distribution of roles in societies. The typical legal circles and legal families from a criminal law perspective are discussed and selected special features of individual legal systems are presented. Comparative criminal law is analysed in terms of its methodology and its role in internationalisation is discussed. The lecture concludes with a (comparative) criminal law study project in which the application of methods is practised together. It thus also prepares students for seminars focusing on comparative criminal law.
